Sustainability at HEARTHE

Hearthe has been built on sustainable fundamentals and we strive for the lightest footprint in regards to minimising food waste, packaging, energy, diverting from landfill and stewardship.

BUT WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

CHRISTOPHER THÉ: I have been passionate about sustainability for many years, especially as it relates to small business.

During my time in hospitality I have worked in places that were terribly wasteful, and have also been witness to others that create almost no waste.

It seems almost all businesses claim to operate sustainably these days, and claiming to be sustainable is virtually impossible to prove or disprove.

I have created HEARTHE to have substance behind our claim as a sustainably run business.
Firstly, by clearly stating our sustainability principles by which we will operate, and secondly,
by designing a roadmap to achieving our sustainability goals.

I challenge you to keep us accountable in our actions and encourage us on our journey to the finish line.

The HEARTHE sustainability journey

There is always a cost to operating sustainably, both in money and effort.

If every sustainability goal was tackled from the outset the business would not survive.

HEARTHE is a fledgling business and cannot operate as sustainability as it should. What is
important is we have a plan to get where we need to be.

As the business grows and puts down roots we will level up our sustainability practices one
bite at a time.

5 HEARTHE PRINCIPLES OF SUSTAINABILITY

1.
Do your research to find out what works and if your current beliefs are true or not.

2.
Sustainability is a journey which should be tackled one bite at a time. Focus on one
area of sustainability at a time and do it to the best of your ability. (For Hearthe this is
food waste and minimal impact packaging)

3.
Always think of the lifecycle cost of anything you use (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle)

4.
The biggest difference you can make to sustainability is to encourage others to change their behaviour through positive, not negative communication (one coffee cup is not going to save the world, but as an economic population we can make the cost of sustainability cheaper and easier than the current polluting ways)

5.
Every improvement in sustainability, no matter how small builds momentum
(and defeats climate nihilism)

Giving Sustainability a score

Thinking of sustainability in levels makes it quantifiable. HEARTHE’s sustainability progress chart can now be given a score and our performance tracked.

The ultimate finish line…
is when sustainable practice becomes cheaper and easier than current polluting methods and our final score is our contribution to this change.
